Syrian Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa held a telephone conversation with Masoud Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), to discuss recent developments in Syria, Syria’s state news agency SANA reported on Sunday.

According to SANA, the call focused on reviewing the latest political and security developments in Syria, with both sides stressing the importance of preserving Syria’s unity, sovereignty and stability.

During the conversation, Barzani welcomed Presidential Decree No. 13 of 2026, which was issued by the Syrian presidency and, according to SANA, guarantees the rights and specific cultural and social characteristics of Kurds in Syria.

The Syrian Arab News Agency said the exchange came amid ongoing regional and domestic discussions over Syria’s political transition and governance framework.
