Gonzalo Vargas, the UNHCR representative in Syria, announced that the United Nations has dispatched the first convoy of food and fuel supplies to the city of Kobani. The convoy, consisting of 24 large trucks, departed from Aleppo to support residents in need.

This operation was coordinated between the United Nations, civil organizations, and the Syrian government at the Damascus and Aleppo levels. Vargas emphasized that the convoy carried “winter supplies and life-saving materials” intended for citizens affected by recent events.

Humanitarian Situation in Kobani

Following clashes in the Ashrafiyeh and Sheikh Maqsoud districts, Kobani has faced severe restrictions. Both residents and displaced families are enduring a dire humanitarian situation. Currently, essential services such as water, electricity, and internet are cut off in the city, making the UN assistance an urgent necessity.

As Vargas noted, “Delivering this aid has become an immediate priority for survival.”
