Iran Warns of New War Amid Escalating Tensions with US
Iran’s Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, stated on Wednesday that the United States is actively seeking to restart military conflict and is using pressure tactics in hopes of forcing Tehran to surrender.
"The enemy’s movements, both overt and clandestine, show that despite economic and political pressure, it has not abandoned its military objectives and is seeking to start a new war," Ghalibaf said in an audio message published on his official website.
Escalating Threats Amid a Fragile Ceasefire
The comments come during a period of heightened rhetoric between Tehran and Washington. The two sides have been swapping proposals to permanently resolve the conflict that initially broke out on February 28. Although a ceasefire has been observed since April 8, recent statements from both capitals have put the truce at risk.
On Wednesday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that the conflict would expand far beyond the immediate region if the US and Israel resume military operations. This warning followed a statement from US President Donald Trump, who declared that Washington would strike again unless Tehran agreed to a comprehensive peace deal.
Economic Blockade and National Unity
Ghalibaf argued that the US is using a combination of economic pressure and a naval blockade, which has been maintained since April 13, to force Iran to give in to Washington’s "excessive demands."
"We must strengthen our preparations for an effective and forceful response to any potential attacks," Ghalibaf said, adding that Iran will never give in to intimidation under any circumstances.
While acknowledging the severe economic strain currently facing the Iranian public, the chief negotiator closed his message with an appeal for internal solidarity. He framed the current geopolitical standoff as a defining historical moment for the country.
"Today it is clearer than ever that we are engaged in a war of wills," Ghalibaf said. "Whoever wins this war will write Iran’s history and determine its future."
