Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed four bilateral agreements in Tehran on Thursday, strengthening cooperation across sectors including transport, infrastructure, and public administration. 

Al-Zaidi arrived in Tehran today for his first official diplomatic visit to Iran since taking office. The high-profile trip follows a formal invitation from Pezeshkian. 

The Prime Minister and the Iranian President oversaw the signing of four agreements and memoranda of understanding across multiple sectors. 

Iraqi signatories included the ministers of Foreign Affairs and Electricity, alongside the acting ministers of Finance and Planning.

The agreements “aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and partnership between the two neighboring countries.”

Iran and Iraq Sign Major Transport and Municipal Trade Accords 

The signed agreements encompass key bilateral initiatives, including an Agreement on the International Road Transport of Goods and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the Kermanshah–Khosravi–Khanaqin–Baghdad Railway Project. 

Additionally, the cross-border partnerships feature a twinning MoU between the Mayoralty of Baghdad and the Municipality of Tehran, alongside a strategic framework for public administration and human resources development. 

raq and Iran Launch Joint Economic Committee and Strengthen Security Ties 

During the highest-level meeting of both delegations prior to the signing ceremony, both countries launched a joint economic committee and reinforced bilateral security ties. 

Al-Zaidi stated that his visit to Tehran reinforces the bilateral relationship, which is grounded in shared geographical, cultural, and religious ties. 

For his part, Pezeshkian thanked the Iraqi people for attending Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's funeral procession, emphasizing that shared stability and bilateral bonds are essential for joint development and investment opportunities.
