A surgical team in Slemani has completed a complex nasal reconstruction using a specialized forehead flap technique for a worker who suffered severe facial trauma from a high-voltage electrical injury.

The multi-stage operation was led by Dr. Diyar Abdulwahid, a specialist in aesthetic and plastic surgery, who detailed the rare procedure during an appearance on Channel8’s Health News bulletin. The technique involves pre-shaping and cultivating nasal tissue on the patient's forehead before transferring it to its proper anatomical location in a subsequent surgical phase.

Surgical Approach and Technique

The patient lost a major portion of his nasal structure following a high-voltage industrial accident. To rebuild the missing tissue, the surgical team selected an advanced forehead flap procedure, a challenging technique reserved for extensive facial defects.

Medical Significance

While regional plastic surgery units routinely perform standard facial reconstructions, prefabricated forehead flap procedures for severe electrical burns represent exceptionally rare clinical cases globally.

Speaking to Channel8, Dr. Abdulwahid confirmed that the initial phase of the transplantation was successful, adding that the patient is currently preparing for the final anatomical transfer once tissue stabilization is complete.
