Channel8 has learned that oil exports through the Kurdistan Region's pipeline to Turkey’s Port of Ceyhan have reached 120,000 barrels per day (bpd).

Plans are underway to eventually scale up total exports through the Kurdistan Region pipeline to 750,000 bpd. 

This projected volume will be distributed as 550,000 bpd from federal Iraq and 200,000 bpd from the Kurdistan Region. 

Furthermore, crude oil will be transported via tankers from the oil fields of Basra to Kirkuk for storage at the K-1 facility. Following a brief accumulation phase, the overall volume of exported oil is scheduled to increase further.

This development follows a period where oil companies operating in the Kurdistan Region halted production in early March due to regional conflict. 

Most of these operators resumed crude production between late June and early July. Out of the total crude volume generated from fields within the Kurdistan Region, 50,000 bpd is currently being retained for local refining to meet domestic demand.

However, as Channel8 reported earlier, over the past decade, oil production in the Kurdistan Region has fallen sharply by 74%, dropping from approximately 950,000 barrels per day in 2017 to 250,000 barrels per day in 2026 due to export disruptions and financial challenges. 

This severe decline is highlighted by the Taq Taq field, where rapid and improper extraction caused water and gas contamination, collapsing its output from 120,000 barrels per day to less than 5,000.
