Heading a high-level PUK delegation, Talabani met with the Iranian President in Tehran on Wednesday during his second day visiting the country.

Both sides focused on the historical and cultural relations connecting the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and Iran, while concurrently reviewing the latest political and security developments unfolding in the region.

Talabani stated that “maintaining regional stability is in everyone's interest, and we will make every effort to calm the situation, as instability harms the security and lives of the citizens.”

For his part, Pezeshkian told the PUK President, "We share a border with you, and it is important for us that our relations are developed on the basis of good neighborliness and mutual respect.”

Leading a senior political delegation, Talabani arrived in the Iranian capital on Tuesday and held high-profile meetings with top Iranian leadership.

During his meeting with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Talabani highlighted that existing issues require peaceful solutions and continuous dialogue.

The Iranian Foreign Minister expressed appreciation for the PUK's role in their efforts to “maintain stability” across the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider region.

In a separate meeting, the PUK President also held talks with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and underlined that, “The Kurdistan Region will not become part of any war or conflict. All efforts must focus on maintaining peace, de-escalating regional tensions, and consolidating stability.”

Talabani also convened with Ali Akbar Velayati, Senior Adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader for International Affairs, to discuss regional stability and said their steps will continue toward de-escalating the situation and securing lasting stability.
