US President Joe Biden said on Tuesday the situation in Gaza would be “very dangerous” if Israel and Hamas fail to come to a ceasefire by the month of Ramadan.

“If we get into circumstances where this continues to Ramadan, Israel and Jerusalem could be very, very dangerous,” Biden told journalists.

He added, there were “no excuses” for Israel to not allow further supplies of aid into the territory.

Ramadan will begin on March 10 or 11.

International mediators were with Hamas negotiators in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss a ceasefire aimed at halting almost five months of conflict in Gaza

Israeli negotiators have so far stayed away from the talks, despite growing diplomatic pressure for a truce to take effect before Ramadan.

Israeli media reported that the country’s negotiating team boycotted the talks after Hamas did not provide a list of living hostages.

Senior Hamas leader Bassem Naim told AFP that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was to blame for obstructing the talks and said it was for the United States to stop the war before Ramadan, saying the “ball is in their court.”
