KRG PM Barzani: We will continue with ‘My Account’ project

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said the government will continue with the “My Account” project and it is in contact with the Iraqi prime minister and the governor of the Central Bank of Iraq regarding several initiatives related to the development of the banking system.

Barzani said in a Facebook statement that the KRG on Sunday evening received a delegation from the Bank of Baghdad’s board of directors led by its chairman, Majid al-Saadi, and the board of directors from the Jordan Kuwait Bank.

He said the KRG discussed opportunities for joint projects in a meeting attended by former Jordanian Prime Minister Abdul Karim al-Kabariti and the board of directors from the Bank of Baghdad.

“We highlighted the KRG’s reforms in the banking system, digitalization of services and electronic payments,” Barzani said. “We also discussed the continuation of the ‘My Account’ project and indicated that we are in contact with the Iraqi prime minister and the governor of the Central Bank In coordination with the conditions and guidelines of the Central Bank of Iraq.”

Barzani stated the delegation expressed admiration for the progress of the “My Account” project and the KRG’s vision of economic diversification and the improvement of the banking system. Both sides agreed on the importance of supporting the efforts of the KRG banking reform.

The Bank of Baghdad is one of the largest commercial banks in Iraq and the first bank in Iraq to be licensed by the Central Bank of Iraq in 1992. The Jordan Kuwait Bank is a Jordanian bank with branches in several Arab countries.
