Since 2015, youth migration from the Kurdistan Region to European countries has increased, following the financial crisis and the onset of the war against Islamic State (ISIS), according to statistics from the Yadc Center in Duhok.

According to the center, more than 155,000 young people have migrated from the Kurdistan Region to foreign countries in the past nine years, with a significant portion originating from the Raparin administration and the Badinan area.

The Yadc Center said that over 37,000 people have migrated from the Badinan area, and more than 34,000 from Raparin. The majority of migrants are aged between 16 and 45 years old.

According to the statistics, migration comes at a significant cost, with each migrant spending an average of about $5,000 to reach a European country. Based on these figures, the 155,000 migrants from the Kurdistan Region collectively spent over $775 million to migrate abroad.

During the same period, at least 600 migrants have lost their lives during their journey and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has retrieved the bodies of 192 young people, children, and citizens who perished at sea, in forests, and at borders of other countries.
