The wife of a senior Islamic State (ISIS) leader and her two children are reported missing from al-Hol Camp in northeast Syria’s Hasaka province, prompting a heightened state of alert.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that the woman, identified as an Egyptian national, went missing after visiting the Syrian Red Crescent hospital along with her two children.

Following her disappearance, camp security forces were placed on high alert. They established a security perimeter in the vicinity, initiated inspection and operational procedures, and surrounded 25 tents.

The operation to secure the road between the camp and the towns of Hol and Hasakah is ongoing, with efforts concentrated on apprehending the woman and her children.

On February 5, internal security forces found two tunnels within the camp, which had been employed to shelter some of the migrant women.

Al-Hol camp was established in 2019 to accommodate over 70,000 families of ISIS militants from 64 countries. Presently, according to Channel 8, the camp hosts around 43,000 people, including 20,144 Iraqis, 16,000 Syrians, and 6,612 foreigners, comprising 18,000 women and 9,000 children.
