Police bust one of the most dangerous drug trafficking networks in Kurdistan

The General Directorate of Combating Narcotics said on Tuesday it has arrested more than a dozen suspects who were part of one of the most dangerous drug trafficking networks in Erbil, Duhok, and Zakho.

The directorate said in a statement that it received a court order for an investigation on February 28 and that a team launched an investigation in coordination with the Iraqi government’s General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs, with the participation of Kirkuk’s narcotics directorate.

A series of consecutive operations that lasted more than 12 days resulted in the arrest of 14 suspects.

Police said 23 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine was seized in Kirkuk.

The network is considered one of the most dangerous drug trafficking groups in Erbil, Duhok, and Zakho. They allegedly trafficked a large amount of drugs to the Kurdistan Region every week, ensnaring Kurdish youth.
