18 detained during Newroz festivities in Turkey’s Kars

Eighteen people were briefly detained in the northeastern Turkish city of Kars for allegedly assaulting firefighters amidst the Newroz celebration across various areas of the city.

According to the Anadolu news agency, the detainees tried to celebrate Newroz by using fireworks, lighting fires without permission, and engaging in demonstrations.

Upon being notified, police and firefighters arrived at the scene to extinguish the fires but they were pelted with stones in response.

The 18 individuals were arrested for purportedly throwing stones at the firefighters. Following interrogation and testimonies, they were subsequently released.
