Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are calling for the trial and extradition of detained members of the Islamic State (ISIS) on the fifth anniversary of the defeat of the militant group in Syria.

Saturday marks the final defeat of ISIS in Syria in its last remaining piece of territory in Baghuz, Rojava.

The SDF issued a statement calling on the international community and allies to resolve the issue of ISIS detainees and urged for the establishment of an international tribunal to hold those accountable, or for the return of foreign detainees to their home countries.

The statement noted ISIS is still a real threat and the reorganization of the group through its sleeper cells is still an open possibility.

The SDF also discussed the dangers of al-Hol camp where the family members of ISIS militants reside, calling it an environment full of terrorism and a threat to the future of the region and the world.

According to Rojava Information Center (RIC), there are 6,912 third-country nationals in al-Hol, along with 22,091 Iraqis and 18,028 Syrians.

RIC said Kazakhstan has repatriated the largest number of its citizens from the camp, 715, followed by Russia, 513, and Kyrgyzstan, 431.

Sweden recently said that it will not provide assistance to repatriate its citizens who joined ISIS.
