The General Directorate of Traffic in Iraq has reported in a statement an alarming increase in traffic accidents, with a total of 1,300 incidents occurring so far this year. This marks a significant rise compared to the previous year.

Speeding, distracted driving from mobile phone usage, failure to adhere to traffic regulations, and inadequate safety measures on international highways have been identified as the primary contributors to these accidents, according to the statement.

The Iraqi Interior Ministry is taking action by introducing cameras and radar systems on major international roads for enhanced monitoring and enforcement. The initiative is set to commence on the Wasit and Karbala international routes.

Iraq continues to face one of the highest rates of traffic accidents globally, underscoring the urgent need for comprehensive road safety measures and enforcement strategies.
