The Iraqi High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has extended the deadline for receiving candidate lists for the Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections until March 31.

Jumana Ghalai, spokesperson for the IHEC, told Channel8 that the deadline extension aims to provide additional opportunities for political parties.

She said that while several parties have already registered, the extension allows additional time for those who have not yet registered to organize their affairs.

She added two coalitions have registered their names and candidates.

Ghalai said that the primary task of the commission after candidate registration is to review the nomination criteria.
