The International Court of Justice’s latest order comes as heavy street battles continued to rage in besieged Gaza — and a major medical charity said it “hasn’t seen any change” since a United Nations Security Council resolution this week demanding an immediate ceasefire.

The ICJ’s order mandates Israel to take immediate and effective action to guarantee the unimpeded delivery of critically needed services and aid, including food, water, electricity, fuel, shelter, clothing, sanitation facilities, medical supplies, and healthcare to the Palestinian population across Gaza.

The court emphasized that the situation is escalating rapidly, with the risk of famine transitioning into a harsh reality for the residents.

The conflict escalated following a significant attack by Hamas on Israel from Gaza on October 7, resulting in a substantial death toll, mainly comprising civilians. The AFP’s data, based on official Israeli reports, suggests around 1,160 fatalities.

Militants have taken approximately 250 hostages, with Israel estimating that 130 are still held in Gaza, including 34 who are feared deceased.

Amidst escalating tensions, Israel’s counteroffensive has allegedly led to the deaths of at least 32,552 individuals, predominantly women and children, according to the health ministry in Gaza under Hamas control.
