The Iraqi Oil Ministry has decided to supply the Kurdistan Region with 15 million liters of kerosene free of charge.

Sabah Subhi, a member of the Oil, Energy and Natural Resources Committee of the Iraqi Parliament, told Channel8 that Baghdad has decided to allocate 50 million liters of kerosene to the provinces of the Kurdistan Region this year.

Previously, unlike other Iraqi provinces where citizens were charged 150 Iraqi dinars per liter, those in the Kurdistan Region were charged 350 Iraqi dinars per liter for kerosene.

“It was contrary to Article 14 of the Iraqi constitution, and in compensation, the Iraqi Oil Ministry has opted to supply the Kurdistan Region with 15 million liters of kerosene at no cost,” he said.

He added that the names of the poor families who will receive the oil have been registered in the provinces.

The Kurdistan Region has distributed two types of kerosene to its citizens this year. The first type, provided by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), was priced at 105,000 dinars per barrel. The second type, supplied by the Iraqi government, was priced at 60,000 dinars per barrel.
