The Israeli military has announced the suspension of leave for its combat units as tensions escalate with Iran following a strike on Tehran’s consulate in Damascus.

Reports indicate that reservist soldiers are being called up in response to perceived threats from Iran. The decision to halt leave for all combat units was communicated in a statement on Telegram.

Additionally, the Israeli military disclosed plans to bolster manpower and draft reserve soldiers to the IDF Aerial Defense Array after a thorough situational assessment.

Amid ongoing conflict in Gaza since the Hamas attack in October, Israel has intensified its strikes against Iranian targets and allies in Syria and Lebanon.

The situation has been further exacerbated by clashes with Iran-backed Hezbollah along the Lebanese border.

Recent hostilities peaked with a strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, resulting in casualties including Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Syrian fighters, and members of Hezbollah. Iran’s Supreme Leader has pledged retaliation, heightening concerns of a broader regional conflict.

Emmanuel Navon, a political science professor, warned of the growing likelihood of a war in the north. The Gaza war, triggered by Hamas’s October attack, has resulted in significant casualties on both sides, with thousands dead and many more displaced.
