Indian Muslims follow unique tradition when breaking Ramadan fast

According to a tradition in India, some Muslims in the country break their fast during Ramadan with salt, instead of the more common tradition of eating dates with water, Al Jazeera reported.

People who follow the tradition believe there is a benefit to their body after going several hours without food or drink.

Wearing hats throughout the month of Ramadan is also a common habit among Indian Muslims.

Muslims also celebrate Laylat al-Qadr, the night of power, the most important night of worship in Islam, on the 27th day of Ramadan. They prepare for it like a holiday, with new clothes, while reciting the Quran, offering prayers, performing the dhikr prayers, and handing out sweets.

India’s Muslim population is the second largest Islamic community in the world after Indonesia, and Islam is the second most widespread religion in India after Hinduism.
