Iraqi PM Sudani: Federal govt ‘serious’ about sending KRG salaries

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said the federal government is serious about sending the salaries of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) employees.

Sudani held a meeting with Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Saturday and the two leaders held a press conference afterwards, where Sudani said the federal government’s Ministry of Finance and the Kurdistan Region are in coordination over salaries.

He added, Baghdad was serious over the issue of government employees’ salaries based on decisions from the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court to pay the salaries.

The Iraqi PM further said the digitalization of salary distribution must continue and that he hoped the agreement between the KRG and the federal government would be implemented.

Speaking on the resumption of oil exports from the Kurdistan Region, Sudani said they had discussed the oil issue and some problems remain, but they hoped it would be resolved.

Barzani and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) leader Bafel Talabani arrived in Baghdad on Saturday for a meeting with the ruling coalition and Iraqi parties to discuss several issues related to the Kurdistan Region.
