PUK President, US Ambassador discuss Baghdad-Erbil tensions and elections

Bafel Jalal Talabani, the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan,  held a meeting in Baghdad with Alina Romanowski, the US Ambassador to Iraq.

During the meeting, specific concerns such as the tensions between Erbil and Baghdad, financial obligations to the Kurdistan Region, and upcoming elections were addressed.

In discussing the Kurdistan Parliament elections, Bafel Jalal Talabani reiterated their adherence to the scheduled election date and underscored the importance of a “transparent and fair” electoral process that reflects the aspirations of all involved parties.

The talks covered a wide range of topics, including political, economic, and security developments. Emphasis was placed on “the need for increased coordination and collaboration among political forces and parties to address challenges and safeguard stability in the nation.”

Bafel Jalal Talabani highlighted “the PUK’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding the salaries of employees in the Kurdistan Region”, steering clear of political strife. He acknowledged the successful resolution of salary issues through joint efforts.

Talabani reiterated the commitment to enhancing the quality of life for the people as a top priority. He expressed optimism for collective efforts towards achieving overarching goals, urging all parties to unite in serving the common good.
