Bafel Talabani: Elections must bring about development of Kurdistan

The leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Bafel Jalal Talabani, met with the leader of the Hikma Movement, Ammar al-Hakim, in Baghdad.

According to a statement issued by Talabani’s press office, the PUK leader said during the meeting that cooperation and coordination between Erbil and Baghdad must be expanded and efforts must be made to serve the public and make the process of good governance successful.

Talabani also stressed the need to hold fair elections in the Kurdistan Region.

“The elections must be held in such a way that the Kurdistan Region develops and strengthens the foundations of democracy,” he said.

Another topic of the meeting was creating a more favorable environment for the continuation of dialogue between the political forces and parties to implement the government’s reform program together and maintain stability in the country.
