Turkish media reports a sharp increase in inflation following recent elections, with food prices soaring by over 20%, notably affecting meat and cheese prices.

According to Cumhuriyet, a leading Turkish newspaper, the surge in food prices, which had momentarily halted during the March 31 local elections and Ramadan, has resumed, hitting consumers hard as Eid approaches.

During the election  campaign period, the price of a typical food basket, originally priced at 2,739 TL in February, remained stable. However, since the conclusion of elections and the end of Ramadan, the same basket now costs 3,308 TL, representing a hefty 20% increase.

Of the 22 food items in the basket, 20 have experienced price hikes, with meat and cheese witnessing the most significant spikes.
