Iraqi PM emphasizes historical contributions of Christian community to national unity

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani underscored the vital role played by the Christian community in the development and unity of Iraq.

His comments came during a meeting with His Beatitude Mar Louis Raphael I Sako, the Patriarch of the Chaldeans in Iraq and worldwide, and his delegation at the Prime Minister’s office.

The discussions during the meeting revolved around the overall situation in Iraq, highlighting the current stability across the country.

This stability has enabled the government to make significant progress in implementing its program priorities for a stronger and more prosperous Iraq.

In a statement released by the Prime Minister’s office, Al-Sudani expressed his satisfaction at the Patriarch’s return to Baghdad, emphasizing the significance of his presence and role in fostering coexistence among all segments of Iraqi society.

He reiterated the government’s dedication to promoting principles of citizenship, essential for the advancement, prosperity, and social well-being of all Iraqis.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Al-Sudani praised the historical contributions of the Iraqi Christian community towards the nation-building process, emphasizing that Iraq’s strength lies in its diverse components harmoniously coexisting under the Iraqi identity.

He assured his unwavering support for addressing issues concerning the Christian community and other national components.

Patriarch Louis Sako conveyed his best wishes to the Prime Minister for Eid al-Fitr and highlighted the need for concerted efforts to enable the government to fulfill its obligations towards the Iraqi populace. He stressed the importance of enhancing living conditions, meeting the needs of the people, and safeguarding the rights of minorities.

Patriarch Sako’s return to Baghdad was made following a personal invitation from Prime Minister Al-Sudani, showcasing the government’s commitment to engaging with and supporting diverse religious and ethnic communities across Iraq.
