German consul-general concerned over Kurdistan elections

The German Consul-General in the Kurdistan Region, Klaus Streicher, told Channel8 that Germany is concerned over the situation of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections.

Speaking to Channel8 at the sidelines of the Sulaimani Forum on Wednesday, Streicher said Germany calls on all political parties to participate in the elections.

He stated he is not optimistic about the situation for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections.

Streicher said the Kurdistan Region is an important part of Iraq and should be listened to.

He also called for parliamentary elections to be held soon.

The eighth Sulaimani Forum, sponsored by Channel8, began on Wednesday at the American University in Sulaimani with the participation of dozens of political and academic figures from the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and abroad.

The forum is sponsored by Channel8 under the title “Middle East Conflicts” and a number of leaders and political figures from the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, the Middle East, Europe, and the United States will discuss political, economic, and environmental issues.

Relations between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, climate change, and water scarcity will all be discussed at the meeting, as well as an emphasis on measures to protect the environment.

The forum will feature political, economic, and environmental panels featuring a number of ministers and senior officials from Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with the participation of several international experts and academics.

The Sulaimani Forum, one of the largest political events in Iraq and the region, began in 2013 as a platform for discussion and debate among leaders around the world.

It is the first major political event in Iraq attended by politicians, researchers, activists, and journalists from the Middle East, Europe, and the United States.
