Israel strikes Iran in retaliation, US receives advance warning

Explosions were reported in Iran’s central province of Isfahan, according to Iran’s state media.

Reports suggest that Israel conducted retaliatory strikes against its arch-rival, Iran. The air defense systems in several Iranian cities were activated in response to the situation.

Following Iran’s firing of missiles and drones at Israel after an embassy strike in Syria, tensions escalated between the two countries.

Iran’s Fars news agency mentioned hearing “three explosions” near Qahjavarestan, close to Isfahan airport and the 8th Shekari army airbase.

The country’s space agency reported that they successfully shot down “several” drones. Despite this, there were no reports of a missile attack, according to the officials.

Iran’s Senior Military Officer in Isfahan, Brigadier General Siavash Mihandoost, clarified that the loud sound heard was from defense systems targeting something in the air and not an explosion on the ground.

He assured the public that nuclear facilities in Isfahan remained secure, as per reports from the Tasnim news agency.

US media outlets like NBC and CNN revealed that Washington had prior knowledge of Israel’s reported strike but did not sanction or participate in the operation.

Reports suggested that Israel had communicated the strike to Washington beforehand. Notably, the target of the strike was not identified as a nuclear facility, according to CNN sources.

As of now, there has been no comment from the White House or the Pentagon on these recent developments.

The Israeli military mentioned that they do not have any comments to provide at this time.

Iran’s media has dismissed reports of an attack from abroad against Isfahan.

“There are no reports of an attack from abroad against Isfahan or any other part of Iran,” Tasnim news agency said.

The US embassy in Israel on Friday restricted the movement of its employees and family members, with travel restricted to the greater Tel Aviv area, Jerusalem, and Beersheva areas.

China said on Friday it will “continue to play a constructive role to de-escalate” tensions in the Middle East.
