Kurdistan parliamentary elections campaign to proceed as planned

The spokesperson for the Iraqi High Election Commission (IHEC), Jumana al-Ghalai has confirmed that the campaigning period for the upcoming Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections is set to commence in May, and there is no decision to postpone it.

“We have forwarded the cases of over 800 candidates to the Council of Ministers for investigation by using the Interior Ministry,” she stated.

Indicating that the commission has greenlit four election page samples, she mentioned that 1,200 polling stations will be established in the Kurdistan Region.

When asked about the commission’s upcoming actions, Ghalai explained that the next phase involves enrolling election observers within and outside Iraq and delegates from political factions.

As per the timetable for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, the election campaign is scheduled to kick off on May 10 and close on June 6.
