Federal Integrity Commission thwarts attempt to sneak prohibited items into Iraq

The Federal Integrity Commission revealed on Friday that it successfully disrupted an illegal scheme to bring prohibited items into Iraq and apprehended the employees involved at the Al-Shayb border crossing.

According to a statement from the Commission’s Government Information and Communications Office received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the investigation team stationed at the Commission’s office in Maysan province, operating at the Al-Shayb border crossing, managed to intercept nine wheels loaded with items banned from import.

The statement mentioned that three individuals, who were part of the wheel inspection committee responsible for approving customs permits for forbidden goods, were apprehended in connection with the incident.

Following extensive monitoring, investigation, and legal procedures, the original documents related to the illicit customs declarations were confiscated during a coordinated operation.

The suspects were subsequently brought before the investigative court judge specialized in integrity cases in Maysan province. As a result, the judge ruled to detain the accused as per the provisions of Article 340 of the Penal Code.
