Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Monday that the United States is on the brink of finalizing a security pact with Saudi Arabia, contingent upon the nation reaching a peace agreement with Israel.

Speaking in Riyadh, Blinken expressed optimism about the progress of negotiations between the two countries.

Blinken renewed US opposition to an Israeli offensive on Gaza’s southernmost city of Rafah, ahead of his trip to Israel.

“We have not yet seen a plan that gives us confidence that civilians can be effectively protected,” Blinken told a meeting of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh.
