Flood in Qaradagh claims lives of four mountain climbers, leader apprehended

Following the devastating flood in Qaradagh that led to the deaths of four mountain climbers, the head of the Sagrma mountaineering group has been arrested.

The Sulaymaniyah police, citing Article 411 of the Iraqi Penal Code, confirmed the detention of the group leader.

Sulaymaniyah police spokesman Sarkawt Ahmad stated in an official release that investigations into the leader’s involvement in the incident are ongoing. The aim is to uncover the complete circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

The distressing incident occurred when a group of 12 mountaineers was confronted by a flood while exploring the village of Qaradagh in Sulaymaniyah province. Regrettably, four climbers lost their lives in the raging waters, as confirmed by Sulaymaniyah Civil Defense spokesperson Aram Ali.

Offering his condolences, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani expressed sympathy to the families of the deceased climbers.

Barzani stressed the importance of observing safety measures in challenging weather conditions to prevent such unfortunate incidents and ensure the safety of all individuals.
