Iraq’s Minister of Interior announces plans for nationwide smart camera installation

The Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, announced on Saturday the government’s plans to deploy smart cameras across all regions of Iraq, in a bid to enhance security and streamline traffic systems.

During a celebration held by the Ministry of Interior for Traffic Week, Minister Al-Shammari emphasized the importance of modernizing traffic infrastructure in the country to meet international standards.

In a statement released by the Ministry and received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Minister Al-Shammari highlighted the ongoing efforts to improve traffic systems and ensure smooth traffic flow.

He underlined the commitment to holding any officer accountable for misconduct, particularly cases of corruption or blackmail, while stressing the significance of fostering a positive relationship between traffic personnel and the public, based on mutual respect.

The Ministry’s initiatives aim to establish a comprehensive and efficient traffic management system that aligns with global standards, signaling a significant step towards enhancing public safety and security on Iraq’s roads.
