Trade Minister reveals upcoming visit by Iranian President to Iraq for economic cooperation

Today, Trade Minister Atheer Al-Ghurairi disclosed plans for an upcoming visit by Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi to Baghdad, emphasizing the establishment of industrial cities and the entry of Iranian private sector companies into the Iraqi market.

During a press conference in Tehran alongside his Iranian counterpart, Al-Ghurairi expressed gratitude for Iran’s status as Iraq’s second-largest trading partner. He outlined the Iraqi government’s commitment to fostering cooperation with neighboring countries, leveraging each nation’s strengths for mutual benefit.

Al-Ghurairi shared that discussions during Raisi’s visit will center on over 10 memorandums of understanding to enhance bilateral economic ties. Plans include engagement with investors, business leaders, and the Iranian private sector to address any existing challenges.

Highlighting the importance of easing obstacles for Iranian businesses in Iraq, Al-Ghurairi underlined the country’s vast market potential and the need for improved business environments to attract investment. He emphasized the joint efforts to establish industrial cities with assistance from Iranian private enterprises, aligning with Iraq’s economic goals for growth and diversification.

As the meeting concluded, the Ministry of Trade announced the upcoming signing of a memorandum of joint cooperation between Iraqi and Iranian officials. Discussions covered various economic, commercial, and political matters, signaling a positive convergence of interests and a step towards enhanced collaboration between the two nations.
