PUK President to US Assistant Secretary of State: The elections must be held on schedule

In a significant meeting at the State Department, Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), engaged in discussions with US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf. Accompanied by Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Head of the Relations Bureau, the talks delved into the latest political developments in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the broader region.

Central to the dialogue were the forthcoming elections, internal dynamics within the Kurdistan Region, and the lingering issues between Erbil and Baghdad.

Emphasizing the need for “fair elections to bolster stability and democracy”, President Bafel Jalal Talabani stressed that “the elections must be held on schedule” and should be responsive to the public’s demands, elevating democratic norms and enhancing governance processes.

He reaffirmed the party’s dedication to serving the populace and upholding regional stability by discussing the PUK’s comprehensive policy and strategy.

Addressing the challenges between Erbil and Baghdad, both parties echoed a commitment to mitigating conflicts, settling disputes within the constitutional framework, and forging a genuine partnership for the nation’s governance.

Talabani underscored the significance of continued constructive dialogues aimed at fostering a more prosperous and democratic region.
