Qubad Talabani discusses block of Sulaymaniyah airport with Turkish defense minister

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Qubad Talabani, met with Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler to discuss the issue of Sulaymaniyah International Airport and several other issues of mutual interest.

The ministers of Peshmerga and Planning, the deputy head of the Foreign Relations Office, and the Turkish ambassador to Iraq also attended the meeting in Erbil on Wednesday evening.

The two leaders also exchanged views on the security situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, stressing the importance of maintaining stability and respecting the sovereignty of both countries.

Solutions to the closing of Turkish airspace to Sulaymaniyah Airport were discussed.

Turkey blocked flights from Turkish Airlines to the city over security reasons related to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Guler met separately with KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday. He held talks with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in Baghdad on Tuesday.
