Police in Kermanshah province, Iran, have arrested several “Afghan” citizens on charges of distributing drugs.

Hamid Reza Karimi, the police chief of Kermanshah province, said Sunday that police teams in the province arrested several foreigners on suspicion of secretly distributing drugs.

“All employers in Kermanshah province have been warned that if they hire Afghan workers, they will be prosecuted and fined according to their choice,” Karimi added.

The presence of Afghans in Iran is significant and has historical roots. Many Afghans have sought refuge in Iran due to conflicts and instability in Afghanistan, particularly since the late 1970s.

“The arrival of some of these foreigners in Iran has caused protests among the people of the cities, which have caused demographic changes and reduced job opportunities for the natives of the cities,” Karimi said.
