At least nine people were trapped inside a gold mine due to a landslide in eastern Turkey on Tuesday, local media said.

Hurriyet Daily News reported 400 rescuers were working to save the nine workers in Erzincan, where nine out of 667 employees are missing.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said there were more than 40 vehicles on the site and stated the nine workers were mostly likely stuck underneath the soil.

Anagold, a private company that manages the mine, said it will do all it can to “urgently shed light on this incident.”

The mine, located near Ilic district in Erzincan, made news in 2022 when it shut down operations due to a cyanide leak, Hurriyet said.
