Stars gather for BAFTAs 2024 in London

“Oppenheimer” is in the running for 13 awards this year as actors arrive in London on Sunday for the BAFTA awards.

The epic film The Atom Bomb by Christopher Nolan has been nominated for Best Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor, Supporting Actor, and Supporting Actress.

The movie has grossed more than $1 billion and won big at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards. It’s predicted to score a sweep at next month’s Oscars as well.

The dark comedy “Poor Things” has grabbed 11 nominations, including Best Film and Best Actress for Emma Stone’s performance.

Martin Scorsese’s film “Killers of the Flower Moon” has taken in nine nominations, but the director and star Leonardo DiCaprio missed out on individual nominations.

“Barbie” has only received five nominations, another disappointment for the film this awards season.

BAFTA chair Sara Putt said the 38 films with nominations were part of “an outstanding year for filmmaking.”

Christopher Nolan will go against Jonathan Glazer (“The Zone of Interest”), Andrew Haigh (“All Of Us Strangers”), Justine Triet (“Anatomy of a Fall”), Alexander Payne (“The Holdovers”), and Bradley Cooper (“Maestro”) for best director.

Besides “Oppenheimer,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” and “Poor Things,” the French film Anatomy of a Fall” and comedy “The Holdovers” are nominated for Best Picture.

Prince William will attend the ceremony as BAFTA’s president.
