Kurdistan Security Agency arrests dozens of “ISIS terrorists”

The Kurdistan Security Agency has disclosed the capture of 30 individuals allegedly linked to extremist activities, branding them as ISIS “terrorists.”

These apprehensions come in the wake of a notable crackdown on two distinct groups that were identified for disseminating radical ideologies via social media platforms.

In a strategic move, the Operations Directorate of the Kurdistan Regional Security Agency orchestrated an operation leading to the arrest of individuals in the Pishder and Bitwen regions. Following credible intelligence information pointing to these groups’ involvement in propagating extremism and their aspirations to affiliate with ISIS, a thorough surveillance operation spanning 20 days was initiated and judicially endorsed.

On December 15, 2023, the operation directorate arrested 10 suspects in Qaladze. The investigative efforts escalated further, culminating in a sweeping operation across multiple locations on December 17, 2023, resulting in the apprehension of an additional 20 individuals in Ranya, Qaladze, Zharawa, Haji Awa, and Skarta.

According to the statement, the arrested individuals were alleged to have plotted to migrate on multiple occasions; despite these plans, their direct contacts with ISIS instructed them to remain in those areas to clandestinely promote ISIS’s cause and expand their extremist network.

The Kurdistan Security Agency emphasized a commitment to upholding public security and peace in the region. The authorities have assured the public of their unwavering resolve to thwart any conspiracies and bring perpetrators to justice with resolute action.
