Former NGM MP releases new video on health status

Kazim Faruq

Kazim Faruq, a former MP from the New Generation Movement (NGM), posted a video from Jordan on Monday announcing his health condition has improved but that he must receive further treatment in Europe or the United States.

Faruq was elected to the Kurdistan parliament in the September 2018 elections and was the leader of the NGM bloc. His health condition has received a great deal of media attention in recent years, with little comment from the former MP.

Faruq announced he had returned to Jordan for treatment and that his body remains affected by the illness he contracted, despite improvements to his health.

“Thank God, my health has improved,” Faruq said in a live Facebook video posted from the ancient Roman theater in Amman. “There are still some effects of the disease on my body “

The former MP first announced his health dilemma in January 2022, and his family has stated he has been seeking treatment abroad. The NGM has both denied the news of Faruq’s health troubles and claimed they were exaggerated by the media.

Faruq said in June 2022 that his illness came from a strange and unexpected source and his mother told a press conference in October 2022 that he was poisoned.

He issued a message in July 2023 that he would reveal the evidence of who was responsible for his illness but has not carried through with the disclosure.

Faruq said in his Facebook video on Monday that some people are “confused, shocked and recognized by their faces” when they discuss his health.

Faruq, who was the leader of the NGM bloc in the Kurdistan parliament, submitted his resignation letter to the parliament’s presidency on February 27, 2022.
