The Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Qubad Talabani, received a German military delegation on Tuesday led by Wolf-Alexandr Hamp, the commander of the German forces in Iraq.

The meeting held in Erbil was attended by Benjamin Hanna, the deputy Consul General of Germany in the Kurdistan Region and Daban Shadala, the deputy head of the KRG Foreign Relations Office.

Talabani thanked Germany for its military assistance and said the threat represented by terrorism was still significant. “Terrorist groups are looking for an opportunity to reorganize and destabilize the region, so we must always coordinate and cooperate to eliminate these threats,” Talabani said.

The progress of reform in the Peshmerga Ministry was also discussed. Talabani stressed the need to continue the reform process as planned until the Kurdistan Region contains a strong and trained professional force.

They also exchanged views on relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, including decisions from the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court, and other issues.
