Head of the Kurdistan Region Commission of Integrity Ahmed Anwar said that Iraq ranks among the 20 most corrupt countries globally, highlighting corruption as a significant threat to governance in the Kurdistan Region.

During a press conference, Anwar emphasized that corruption in the Kurdistan Region undermines the entire governance process, leading citizens to lose confidence in the institutions.

“Despite the efforts, we believe there is still much work to be done in combating corruption and preventing the misuse of public resources,” he added.

“Iraq’s ranking among the 20 most corrupt countries in the world indicates that we still have a considerable distance to cover in combating corruption.”

Iraq ranks below the Middle East average, as per Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index (CPI), with a ranking of 154 out of 180 countries.
