In Urmia and Tehran provinces, 51 people were detained for allegedly advocating against participation in the parliamentary elections scheduled for March 1.

Commander Rahim Jahanbakhsh of Urmia Police said that 50 people have been detained for managing social media pages aimed at “misleading the public and discouraging their participation in the elections.”

Jahanbakhsh said the arrests were conducted “based on police intelligence and in collaboration with judicial authorities.”

“Posting any content on social media that incites tension is deemed a criminal offense,” Jahanbakhsh said, without disclosing the identities of the detainees.

Meanwhile, a woman in Tehran was arrested while addressing the crowd in Valiasr Street square, urging people not to partake in the elections.

According to witnesses, the woman, aged over 20, removed her veil in front of Iran’s official radio and television cameras, declaring, “There is no vote, and we will not vote.” She was subsequently detained by security forces at the scene.

Despite calls from citizens for the young woman’s release, security forces escorted her away and warned bystanders against recording the incident. Additionally, witnesses and vendors were cleared from Valiasr Street.

These events coincide with Iran’s parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections scheduled for tomorrow.
