Korek Telecom CEO Confirms Resolution of Licensing Dispute with Iraqi Media Authority Within Two Weeks
Korek Telecom CEO, Sirwan Barzani, announced that the company has agreed to all conditions set by the Iraqi Media and Communications Authority, expressing confidence that the ongoing issues will be resolved within two weeks.
Speaking to Channel8, Barzani stated that Korek has fully complied with the regulatory demands, paving the way for a resolution of the dispute.
The conflict began when the Iraqi Media and Communications Authority declared on November 1, 2023, that Korek Telecom’s operating license had expired on August 30, 2023.
The company faced several financial and technical challenges, including significant unpaid taxes. As a result, the authority instructed telecom giants Asiacell and Zain to sever ties with Korek under the 2004 Companies Licensing Act (No. 65).
However, with the recent developments, Korek Telecom is hopeful that the issues will soon be settled, allowing the company to continue its operations.
