Five Provinces Forecast to Hit 50°C
The Iraqi Meteorological Organization said Saturday's weather will be clear and hot across the country, with some cloud cover and temperatures remaining similar to recent days.
The highest temperatures are forecast in Najaf, Muthanna, Dhi Qar, Maysan, and Basra, where the mercury is expected to reach 50°C.
Temperatures Across Iraq
According to the forecast, temperatures will reach:
- 43°C in Slemani and Duhok.
- 44°C in Erbil.
- 47°C in Nineveh and Anbar.
- 48°C in Diyala.
- 49°C in Kirkuk, Baghdad, Babylon, Saladin, Wasit, Karbala, and Diwaniyah.
Heatwave to Ease Slightly From Sunday
The Meteorological Organization said Sunday's weather will remain clear, with scattered clouds expected over northern areas. Temperatures are forecast to remain close to Saturday's levels.
Weather expert Luqman Hawizy said Thursday was the hottest day of the summer in Erbil and much of the Kurdistan Region.
He added that the current heatwave will remain at its peak through Saturday before temperatures decline by 1–3°C in most cities beginning Sunday.
Another Surge Expected Next Week
Hawizy said temperatures are expected to rise again next Thursday and Friday.
He noted that Kirkuk and parts of Garmian could record temperatures of 50°C during the next peak of the heatwave.
