Salim al-Rukabi, spokesperson for Iraq's Ministry of Oil, announced that an oil tanker carrying 2 million barrels of Iraqi crude has safely transited the Strait of Hormuz.
The successful passage follows recent security disruptions in the strategic waterway and signals improving conditions for Iraq's crude exports.
The Ministry of Oil said the movement of crude tankers through the Strait of Hormuz remains part of normal export operations.
It emphasized that Iraqi crude is sold under Free on Board (FOB) contracts, meaning ownership and transportation responsibilities are transferred to the buyer once the cargo is loaded at Iraqi export terminals.
The ministry added that it neither owns the tankers nor bears responsibility for maritime transit approvals or navigation through the strait.
According to the ministry, Iraq's oil exports and revenues recorded an increase in July 2026 compared with the previous month.
The rise comes as export operations continue to recover following disruptions linked to regional tensions.
The State Organization for Marketing of Oil (SOMO) said it uses global vessel-tracking systems to monitor Iraqi crude shipments until they arrive at buyers' refineries.
Several Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) transporting Iraqi oil can carry up to 2 million barrels per voyage, contributing to higher monthly export volumes.
