KRG Minister of Finance Awat Sheikh Janab received the supervisory team of the MyAccount project from the Office of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by the Ministry's advisors and directors-general, during which Shilan Doski, Head of Special Projects within the Office of the Prime Minister, summarized the project's final implementation stages and its ongoing transition to the Ministry of Finance.

Awat Sheikh Janab highlighted the challenges previously faced by private banks, “emphasizing that these issues must be resolved as quickly as possible to deliver enhanced services to the employees and salary earners of the Kurdistan Region.”

The briefing also highlighted recent milestones in the regional digital transformation, focusing on registration metrics, beneficiary data, and infrastructure deployment.

To date, more than one million public sector employees receive their salaries digitally, supported by the installation of over 750 ATMs. The initiative is nearing full integration, with only approximately 10,000 salary earners remaining to be registered.

The MyAccount initiative was originally launched in 2023 directly under the control of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani’s executive office. 

Because it was run by the premier's team, the project faced domestic political blowback and boycotts from rival regional factions. 

Transferring full authority to the Ministry of Finance and Economy institutionalizes the project under an established, multi-party ministry to build broader political consensus. 

Additionally, this move helps the KRG legally align with the Central Bank of Iraq and federal requirements to ensure smooth budget and payroll transfers from Baghdad.
