The Iraqi Independent High Election Commission (IHEC) has released details on the allocation of seats in the provinces of the Kurdistan Region, outlining the forthcoming parliamentary elections' structure.

The Kurdistan parliament is slated to encompass 100 seats, with specific seat distributions across various regions: 34 in Erbil, 38 in Sulaymaniyah, 25 in Duhok, and three in Halabja.

Jumana al-Ghalai, a spokesperson for the Commission, highlighted the approval of guidelines pertaining to coalition formation among political parties for the upcoming Kurdistan parliamentary elections. "The council of commissioners has endorsed the coalition guidelines for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections," Ghalai conveyed to Channel8.

"The Kurdistan Region is set to be divided into four constituencies, namely Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, and Halabja," she shared.

In terms of candidate registration, the Iraqi High Election Commission has established a timeline running from March 5 to March 24 for candidates and political parties to submit their entries. Notably, coalitions and political entities are mandated to present a singular candidate list per constituency, barring participation in multiple coalitions within the same region.

Eligibility criteria are stringent, requiring candidates to fulfill various prerequisites, including residency in the respective area of nomination, attainment of a minimum age of 25, and meeting all self-nomination conditions.

The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, signed a decree to certify the date of the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The date of June 10, 2024, has been disclosed as the date for the sixth round of parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region, based on a decree from the second paragraph of Article 10 of the Presidency Law No. 1 of 2005.

All parties, according to the decree, are obliged to take the necessary steps to cooperate with the Independent High Election Commission to implement the decree.
