European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen voiced optimism on Friday for the establishment of a humanitarian aid pathway from Cyprus to Gaza over the upcoming weekend.

During a visit to the Cypriot port of Larnaca alongside President Nikos Christodoulides, von der Leyen shared her anticipation of opening the aid corridor as concerns mount over a potential famine in the conflict-affected Palestinian territory.

“We are on the brink of initiating this passage, aiming for this Sunday,” she affirmed.
