The Iraqi government has decided to shut down all refugee schools in the Kurdistan Region for the 2024-2025 academic year, according to Pir Dayan Jaafar, head of Duhok province’s migration and crisis office.

Jaafar said in a press conference that the federal government is constantly putting pressure on Iraqi refugees in the Kurdistan Region to return to their cities.

He said that the Iraqi government has decided to recall its representatives from the Kurdistan Region and all Arab teachers for the upcoming academic year 2024-2025.

Arab citizens and internally displaced people who have moved to the Kurdistan Region from their respective areas will be unable to continue their education next year.

The Iraqi government has decided to close all refugee camps in the Kurdistan Region until July 30, but refugees will not be compelled to return to their cities; their return will be voluntary.
